Laryngeal manifestations are well known and relatively frequent in hypothyroidism. For example horseness, which is due to edematous infiltration of the larynx and vocal cords is often the patient's chief complaint, prompting his initial consultation with a specialist. Of much rarer occurence, however is the concomitant development of laryngeal edema and acute respiratory failure. We report one such case history below.
