The present invention is directed to a composition for use in liver function improvement, blood alcohol level reduction and in-vivo antioxidant activity enhancement, comprising Lactobacillus brevis HY7401, Lactobacillus fermentum CS332, Lactobacillus acidophilus CSG, Bifidobacterium longum HY8001, an Alder tree extract, a Selfheal extract, a milk thistle extract, a green bean-rice bran fermentation extract, a turnip extract, a tomato extract, a broccoli extract, a pineapple extract, a colostrum powder, betaine, vitamin B.sub.1, B.sub.2, B.sub.3, B.sub.6, B.sub.9, B.sub.12, C, and E. The composition can improve declined liver functions and shows excellent hepatoprotective and hepatocurative activity against alcohol on excessive or habitual drinking with the ability to reduce blood alcohol levels. Its superior enhancement of in-vivo antioxidant activity also contributes to the use of the composition in the prevention of liver diseases and the improvement of liver functions. The present invention provides a composition comprising a green-yellow vegetable (e.g., broccoli, spinach, parsley, komatsuna (Brassica rapa L.), Japanese radish leaves) and a light-colored vegetable (e.g., lettuce, cabbage, celery), the composition having the following effects: (1) inhibiting the generation of blood lipid peroxide; (2) lowering blood TBARS levels or suppressing the elevation of blood TBARS levels; (3) increasing blood vitamin E levels; (4) enhancing blood antioxidant activity; (5) enhancing blood TRAP levels; (6) lowering blood active oxygen levels or suppressing the elevation of blood active oxygen levels; and (7) preventing or treating diabetic complications.

A variety of Brassica napus, designated AG019, and varieties essentially derived therefrom, having oil which combines oxidative stability sufficient for industrial applications with a desirable dietary fatty acid profile. Oil having an oleic acid content of from about 71.4% to about 77.4%, a linolenic acid content of no more than about 3%, an oleic:linolenic acid ratio value of at least about 34.0, and an (oleic+linoleic)/linolenic acid ratio value of at least about 41.2. The oil has substantially improved oxidative stability, relatively to normal rapeseed oil, when both are treated with antioxidant.
