One dosage of Chinese herbal medicine by oral administration per day for 8 weeks. For patients who cannot take oral medicine can be switched to colon route by the colonic therapy system（IMS-100A produced by Sunny Medical in Beijing China).

Patients in the control group only receive the standard medical treatment (SMT), no control drug with CHM.

Paeoniae Radix Rubra (60g), Gardenia jasminoides Ellis (9g), Hedyotis diffusa Willd (30g) and Bletilla striata (15g) are involved for excess syndrome, and Astragalus membranaceus (30g), Radix Pseudostellariae (15g), Radix Aconiti Lateralis Praeparata (10g), Galli Gigeriae Endothelium Corneum (20g), Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb.et Zucc (15g) are involved for deficiency syndrome.

Chinese herbal medicine

SMT therapy includes a high-calorie diet; nucleoside analogues for HBV DNA-positive patients; sodium restriction, diuretics and paracentesis combined with albumin infusion for ascites; lactulose and L-ornithine aspartate and lactulose for HE and hyper-ammonia; hemostatic treatment for gastrointestinal hemorrhage; antibiotics for infections and renal replacement for HRS and uremic symptoms.

A Double-blind, Randomized, Two-dose Trial of Tumor-shrinking Decoction (TSD), a Chinese Medicine Preparation in Patients With Symptomatic Uterine Fibroids

UFS-QOL consists of 37 items to assess the severity of UFs-related symptoms and the quality of life of patients.

The secondary clinical outcome is the clinical response that is defined as a ≥30% baseline-to-endpoint reduction on the symptom severity of transformed UFS-QOL score.

Imaging outcomes will be examined at baseline and endpoint using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan to determine the number, size and density of the uterine fibroids.

two blood samples will be collected from each patient at baseline and at the end of the study, respectively. The collection of blood will be conducted between 08:00 and 09:00 before meal. Sera will be separated and stored at -20ºC until assayed. Serum concentrations of estrogen, progesterone and follicle-stimulating hormone will be measured using chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA).

Adverse events will be closely monitored at each visit. All adverse events, reported, elicited or observed, will be recorded on case report form, including the date and time of onset, duration, severity, relationship to study drug, and action taken.

The primary outcome measures were the differences in patients' scores on several clinical scales, between baseline (within 7 ± 1 days after the onset of stroke) and week 4 (28 ± 4 days), and between at baseline and week 12 (84 ± 10 days). The scales we used were the Functional Independence Measure scale (FIM), Barthel Index scale (BI), Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS), and Modified Rankin Scale (MRS).
