Biotic elicitors can be used to stimulate the production of secondary metabolites in plants. However, limited information is available on the effects of biotic elicitors from endophytic fungi on their host plant. Trichoderma atroviride D16 is an endophytic fungus isolated from the root of Salvia

Salvia miltiorrhiza is a very important herbal drug of traditional Chinese medicine. Bioactive constituents are represented by two main groups of secondary metabolites, the lipophilic diterpenic quinones known as tanshinones and the hydrophilic depsides known as salvianolic acids. S. miltiorrhiza
Tanshinone IIA exerts anti-inflammatory effects and influences electron transfer reaction in mitochondria. In the present study, we demonstrated that tanshinone IIA increased intracellular production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which in turn induces heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression in RAW
Nuclear factor kappaB (NF-kappaB) activation by NF-kappaB-inducing kinase (NIK)-IkappaB alpha kinase (IKK) pathway and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) pathway are important in inflammation. We recently found that the tanshinone IIA, a diterpene isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza (S.
The objective of this study was to investigate the interaction between tanshinones and polyphenolic extracts of Salvia miltiorrhiza BUNGE in rats. The rats in the medium dose groups were given an intravenous administration of 10 mg/kg tanshinones extract-loaded emulsion (equivalent to 4.0 mg/kg

The non-protein amino acid beta-aminobutyric acid (BABA) is a proven inducer of plant defense against pathogens. This work examines its effect on the production of diterpenoid tanshinones in Salvia miltiorrhiza hairy root cultures, both separately and in combination with a yeast elicitor (YE, the
Smooth muscle cell (SMC) migration plays an important role in normal angiogenesis and is relevant to disease-related vascular remodeling in conditions such as brain arteriovenous malformations, pulmonary hypertension, arteriosclerosis, and restenosis after angioplasty. In this present study, we
A rapid, sensitive and selective liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric (LC-MS/MS) method for the simultaneous determination of tanshinone I, dihydrotanshinone I, tanshinone IIA and cryptotanshinone, the active components of Salvia miltiorrhiza in rat plasma, was developed. After

Ag (+) was employed as an abiotic elicitor to stimulate the secondary metabolite production in hairy root culture of Salvia miltiorrhiza, a valuable herbal plant. The addition of Ag (2)S (2)O (3) at 15 - 40 microM to the culture between 12 and 22 days post inoculation resulted in more than 2-fold

Salvia miltiorrhiza is a valuable Chinese herb (Danshen) that is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. Diterpene quinones, known as tanshinones, are the main bioactive components of S. miltiorrhiza; however, there is only limited information regarding the molecular mechanisms underlying
Tanshen, the rhizome of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge, is a famous Traditional Chinese Medicine for multiple therapeutic remedies. This work presents the isolation and purification of tanshinone I and tanshinone IIA from the extract of the rhizome of S. miltiorrhiza by using high-speed counter-current
BACKGROUND Tanshinones are a major class of bioactive ingredients in the traditional herbal medicines, Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza). A sensitive and reliable determination method for tanshinones is useful to ensure the quality of Danshen. OBJECTIVE To develop a sensitive and selective analytical
