Cytochrome P450IIE1 (IIE1) is a microsomal xenobiotic-activating enzyme that is inducible not only by various chemical agents but also by fasting and diabetes. Using a rat model that mimics human obesity, we have found that hepatic IIE1 levels are also increased by this common clinical disorder.
In male rats, genetic obesity and experimental diabetes are associated with altered activities of several of the hepatic microsomal P-450 isozymes concerned with steroid and xenobiotic oxidation. The present study examined the roles of insulin and ketonaemia in effecting these changes. In obese male
The activity of four liver enzymes participating in the xenobiotic metabolism was determined in male and female obese hyperinsulinemic Zucker rats. When compared to lean normoinsulinemic control animals the obese male rats had lower hepatic aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase and the female animals lower
