Experiences of Disclosure in Adolescents With Coeliac Disease

Understanding Perceived Barriers to the Disclosure of Psychological Difficulties by Young People With Coeliac Disease

Includes questions around experiences of having coeliac disease and experiences of disclosing psychological difficulties to clinicians in the service.

Data will be kept for 5 years, separately to any identifiable information, and will then be disposed of securely. This is in accordance with Trust policy. The interviews will be deleted when the research study is finished.

serum IgA-tissue transglutaminase antibody (tTG) was analyzed in serum using a quantitative automated ELISA method by means of a commercially available detection kit using recombinant human tTG as antigen recommended cut-off by the manufacturer > 8 U/mL).

upper gastrointestinal endoscopic examination will be done and the jejunal histopathological examinations will be done at the Histopathology Laboratory. The features consistent with CD included: hyperplasia of crypts, atrophy of villous, and increase of intraepithelial lymphocytes.Duodenal samples will be processed using haematoxylin/eosin staining and CD3 immunophenotyping. The number of intra-epithelial lymphocytes (IEL), the architecture of villi, and the inflammatory cell infiltration of the lamina propria will be assessed. Histopathological changes will be classified according to the Marsh-Oberhuber criteria.Lymphocytic enteropathy (Marsh 1 lesion) was defined as 25 or more IEL per 100 epithelial nuclei, and normal villous architecture.

The Diagnostic Performance of Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase IgA Antibodies Serum Level for Detection of Patients With Celiac Disease

tTG are regarded as qualitative, i.e., positive or negative.Values of tTG between 2 and 7 U/mL will be considered as doubtful positive, and those of 7 U/mL or more as positive.
cut-off of ≥7 U/mL will be used in this study.

Symptoms of Celiac disease will be self-measured by participants daily for the entire 6 week study period using the Celiac Symptom Index tool.

health related quality of life will be measured at 4 time points using a validated tool; (short form 36; SF-36) baseline, week 2, week 4, and at the end of the study at week 6.
Scores can range from 20-80, with 50 being a population norm. Therefore, a score above 50 indicates better than the general population norm, and a score below 50 indicates worse than the population norm.

Health Related Quality of Life

The ATG antibody level will be measured at baseline, week 2, week 4 and week 6. Normal values are less than 7; elevated values mean a worse outcome. Assessed at baseline, week 2, week 4 and week 6; baseline and week 6 reported.
