An 82-year-old white man with recurrent prostatitis was hospitalized with acute urinary retention. On 3 separate occasions the blood potassium was 10 mg. per cent. An admission electrocardiogram was typical of hyperpotassemia. The patient recovered on intravenous therapy and conservative treatment. Transurethral resection of the prostate was done 3 weeks later.
