In patients with haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and in those who had HFRS in the past ionized calcium (Ca2+) and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels were measured in the blood. High levels of PTH in normal or low those of Ca2+ were typical for HFRS oliguria. Hyperparathyroidism observed was assessed as an adaptation reaction preventing oliguria-related Ca2+ fall. In cured patients neither Ca2+ nor PTH deviation were reported.
