Cryptolepis sanguinolenta is a species of flowering plant in the family Apocynaceae. An extract from the root is traditionally used in West Africa for malaria.It contains the alkaloids cryptolepine, quindoline, and neocryptolepine.The roots are also used as a yellow dye.
In a microbiological study at Johns Hopkins University, an ethanolic (60%) extract of Cryptolepis sanguinolenta was found highly active in-vitro against stationary phase B. burgdorferi.
