Abstract

Dizygotic twin babies with a gestational age of 35 weeks were born with birth weights of 1800 gm and 1200 gm respectively. One infant had gangrene of her right foot at the age of eleven days. The other contracted urinary tract infections twice, at the ages of one month and two months. The blood sugar levels of both infants were high (> 450 mg/dl) during admission at three months old. During that admission, one twin suffered from diabetic ketoacidosis and the other had acute diarrhea. Both infants began treatment with insulin and were followed up until they were four years old. The HLA typing of both patients showed no relation to DR3 or DR4.
