Sphaerophysa kotschyana is a Turkish endemic and endangered plant that grows near Salt Lake, in Konya, Turkey. However, little is known about the ability of this plant to generate/remove reactive oxygen species (ROS) or its adaptive biochemical responses to saline environments. After exposure of S.
4-[2-(3,5-Dimethoxyphenyl)ethenyl]-1,2-benzenediol (7), a stilbene isolated from Sphaerophysa salsula, was synthesized from 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (1) in five steps in an overall yield of 33%. The spectral data for synthetic 7 are in good agreement with those of the natural product.
