Two BODIPY (4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene) moieties were chemically appended to the 4,7-positions of 1,10-phenanhtroline resulting in two new ligands (BODIPY-Phen and 4I-BODIPY-Phen) with strong absorption at 507 nm and 540 nm, respectively. BODIPY-Phen emits fluorescence strongly

Lewis acid-promoted Kharasch-Curran additions: a competition kinetics study of bromine atom transfer addition of N-alpha-bromoacetyl-oxazolidinone to 1-hexene.

Lewis acids can efficiently promote free radical atom transfer reactions of an oxazolidinone imide substrate, 1, derived from alpha-bromo acetic acid. Thus, 1 undergoes a radical chain addition to 1-hexene giving the atom transfer addition compound, 6, in the presence of scandium or ytterbium

Lanthanide Structures, Coordination, and Extraction Investigations of a 1,3-Bis(diethyl amide)-Substituted Calix[4]arene Ligand.

The synthesis and structure determinations of lanthanum, samarium, ytterbium, and lutetium complexes of 5,11,17,23-tetra-tert-butyl-25,27-bis((diethylcarbamoyl)methoxy)-26,28-dihydroxycalix[4]arene (L) are described. The four structures display similar characteristics with the trivalent lanthanide

BODIPY chromophores as efficient green light sensitizers for lanthanide-induced near-infrared emission.

A new boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) modified 8-hydroxylquinoline ligand (8-HOQ-BODIPY) is synthesized for the sensitization of near-infrared emission of lanthanide(III) ions. The BODIPY unit, as revealed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, aligns almost perpendicularly to the 8-HOQ unit.
