Cure was defined by the authors as: missing local (at site of interest) or systemic signs of infection and terminated surgical and systemic antibiotic therapy. All Parameters had to be positive to fulfill the outcome parameter "cure".If one of the mentioned parameters was negative, outcome was defined as "not cured". Local signs of infection were defined as the appearance of: redness, tenderness, swelling or persisting wound drainage.

Affected bone or joint: Long bones of the lower extremity; hip joint, knee joint;
Bacterial growth of S. epidermidis at the site of interest
Written consent
Age: 18 and older
