Numerous Velloziaceae species concentrated in Minas Gerais, Brazil, constitute most of the desiccation tolerant flora of S. America. In the grasses, two Microchloa spp and Tripogon spicatus are desiccation tolerant. Though widespread, they are low growing and appear unimportant. With the exception
