Trypsin-like serine proteases are involved in large number of processes, especially in digestive degradation and immune responses. Here, we identify the characterization of a trypsin-like serine protease in planarian, Djtry, which interestingly has the incompletely conserved catalytic triad (K, D,

A proteolytic activity was identified in Dugesia tigrina planaria using the chromogenic substrate Phe-Ala-Ala-Phe (4-NO2)-Phe-Val-Leu-O4MP. The activity of the enzyme increased four times during the regeneration and presented a maximum at 120 hr being higher in tail than head regenerating segments.

Characterization of a collagenolytic enzyme released from wounded planarians Dugesia japonica.

Planarians (Dugesia japonica) were cultured on gels of type I bovine collagen under various conditions that damaged the worms to test the possibility that the animals secrete a collagenolytic enzyme when they are wounded. The planarians were shown to release a potent collagenolytic enzyme around
Cell regeneration is a natural repair of different types of tissue after an injury or a lesion, and is associated with asexual reproduction in some animals such as planarians. Its understanding and improvement could have repercussions for tissue repair and regeneration as far as humans are
We investigated perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)-induced stress response in planarians. We administered different concentrations of PFOA to planarians for up to 10 d. PFOA exposure resulted in significant concentration-dependent elevations in lipid peroxidation, glutathione S-transferase and caspase-3
