Privacy Policy

1. INTRODUCTION

The mission of BioSeek is to increase the efficiency of the scientific research process by improving search for specialized information and providing multiple integrated tools to help manage knowledge. A User (“User”, “you”) is any legal or natural person who, as a recipient of the Service, accesses or uses the Service, regardless of the purpose of these actions. Our registered Users (“Members”) reveal their professional identities and credentials, list their scientific publications, engage and collaborate with their peers and networks, exchange professional insights and knowledge, share and view relevant content, and discover business and career opportunities. Content is also visible to unregistered or logged-out Users (“Visitors”) to some extent. This Privacy Policy describes our procedures dedicated to actualize our commitment to protecting your privacy online with transparency, integrity, and security.

This Privacy Policy sets forth the collection and use practices of BioSeek JSC, 42 Ilarion Dragostinov Str., 1505 Sofia, Bulgaria (“BioSeek”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) for Personal Information (defined below) we obtain and apply in the process of providing the services delivered to you through the BioSeek website available at https://www.bioseek.eu, and through any of its web pages and associated applications which may be available on multiple devices, including mobile applications (“Service”). This Privacy Policy may refer to the Users of BioSeek’s Service as “Members”, “Visitors”, or “you” or through any second-person pronouns, such as “yours”, etc.

BioSeek reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time, in particular, to reflect changes in market conditions affecting BioSeek’s activities, changes in technology, changes in relevant laws and regulatory requirements, and changes in BioSeek’s system capabilities. In the event we modify this Privacy Policy, any new version shall be effective 30 days immediately after the posting of such revised Privacy Policy on the Service, unless stated otherwise. If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify Members by email or other reasonable means, including through notifications on our Service. If you object to the new version, you should stop using our Service and/or close your account. If you continue to use our Service after having been provided with such notice you will be deemed to have acknowledged the Privacy Policy.

We collect publicly available information about you, such as information regarding previous research published by you and regarding affiliations associated with you.

For now BioSeek does not host any advertising. If we start to present advertising materials on the Service, this section will be updated and you will be notified.

BioSeek reserves the right to use certain Google services, operated by Google, Inc., California, USA (“Google”). Google services may include Google Analytics, a web analytics service, Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting, and integrated services that require Google Analytics to collect data via advertising cookies and anonymous identifiers, and Google’s DoubleClick Services. Any information generated by the cookies about your use of the Service (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States of America. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the Service, compiling reports on website activity for us, and providing other services relating to website activity and Internet usage. F. COMMUNICATIONS

In communications you initiate through our Service, for example, an invitation sent to a non-Member to join the community, or an invitation to a member or non-member to join a board you have created- a Mind Map, for example, will contain your name. Once an individual is added to your network on the service, regardless of who has sent the invitation, your contact information that you choose to include in your researcher profile will be shared with that person.

In general BioSeek does not share your Personal Information - collected by us or provided by you- with third parties unless you have given your consent beforehand. However, BioSeek reserves the right to disclose if necessary the Personal Information it has about you with vendors, agents, and contractors who assist BioSeek in administering the Service and with the final objective of providing benefits to you.

Personal Information may be shared in response to legal process or when the law requires it (for example, in response to a court order) or to protect the rights, safety or property of BioSeek, the Service, Users of the Service (including you), and others, to the extent the applicable law permits.

BioSeek may also disclose Personal Information in cases when it’s necessary to identify, contact, or initiate legal action against a person or entity who may be violating BioSeek’s Terms of Service, for example causing harm to other Users of the Service.

If assets of BioSeek are transferred or sold to another entity, Personal Information may be shared with the acquiring entity and/or to potential acquiring entities, only to the extent permitted by applicable law and after we have obtained your prior consent where required.

5. PERSONAL INFORMATION TRANSFERRING OUTSIDE OF THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA

The Personal Information that BioSeek collects from you and that you provide to BioSeek is processed in and is stored on servers in Germany, Hetzner Data Centers. BioSeek has ensured full compliance with GDPR.

In cases when your Personal Information is transferred to third parties (described above in this Privacy Policy) and those third parties are located outside of the European Economic Area, in countries whose data protection laws may not be as exhaustive and detailed, and we consider them to not stand up to guaranteeing our privacy and security standards, we ensure those standards are met by establishing an appropriate data transfer agreement.

6. SECURITY

We are taking all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your Personal Information is kept securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law, including GDPR prescriptions. We protect your Personal Information against unauthorized access, copying, use, disclosure, and disposal.

All pages are secured using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology, which encrypts data between our computer and your end devices. It is best to make sure your Internet browser is using the latest security features by downloading the latest version which should have full SSL support.

Maintaining the confidentiality of your User ID and password which you use to access the Service is your responsibility. You agree to accept responsibility for all activities which take place in relation to this. You should not allow other people to use your credentials. If you suspect your User ID or password may have been compromised, please contact us immediately. In case there is unauthorized access to your login details or unauthorized activity on the Service as a result of your login details becoming known by someone else, we will not be responsible to you unless this was due to an error on our part.

It is important to keep in mind that, despite our efforts regarding security, the Internet is not a secure means of communication. A breach in security of Personal Information communicated through the Internet may occur. You accept that you use the Service at your own risk.

7. DISABLING YOUR ACCOUNT AND STORAGE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

You may request that your account, which you have created on the Service, is closed or disabled at any time and we will act accordingly. We will disable inactive accounts or accounts that are used in violation of our Terms of Service or any applicable law.

However, in order to comply with law, prevent fraud, collect pending fees or resolve disputes, enforce our Terms of Service, assist with legal investigations, and/or take other actions otherwise permitted by law, we will keep Personal Information from closed or inactive accounts as long as it is necessary for the purposes of the actions listed above.

In general, Personal Information from closed or inactive accounts will be deleted one month after the account is closed or deactivated unless we have plausible reasons to believe that the Personal Information should be retained for one of the purposes mentioned above.
